Railroad Environmental Recordings

Diesel Era Mainline

This CD features non-stop action as recordings are mixed into the space of 63 minutes. The sounds on this CD represent a busy diesel era mainline. Both EMD and General Electric power is heard, and the sounds on this CD could represent anything from the seventies up to the present day.

A Fifties Junction

This CD features non-stop action as thirty-six individual recordings are mixed into the space of 61 minutes. The sounds on this CD represents a busy junction during the transition from steam to diesel. Steam trains are heard starting, accelerating, drifting at speed and working grades. Diesels are heard passing with freight and passenger trains, as well as switching the small yard.

Caboose Ride!

This is the perfect CD for background sound, or even to fall asleep to. We are riding on a caboose, bringing up the rear of a branchline freight train. As we roll along over jointed rail, crossing bells clang past and the sound of the whistle and the engine’s exhaust drift back from the front of the train. Close your eyes and remember the railroads of days gone by.

Railroad Yard

Non turbocharged diesels rev up, slack bangs and crashes, and another cut of cars is sent rolling down a yard track. This CD features the sounds of switching action in a major railroad yard. Mixed into three long tracks are the sounds of first generation SW type E.M.D. switchers and second generation six axle SD38 and SD40 locomotives being used in switching service. Second and third generation power from both E.M.D. and G.E. are also heard.

Whistles In The Night

Much has been written about the sound of the steam locomotive at night... the sound of the lonesome whistle blowing, echoing off the hills as trains pass in the night. Here then is our tribute to the lonesome call of the steam whistle; a tribute in sound if you will. Rather than presenting collection of sounds of steam locomotives passing, this CD is an atmospheric painting in sound of distant trains passing in the night. Close your eyes and relax to the musical sounds of the age of steam, played out on nature’s stage!

A Steamy And Stormy Spring Morning

It’s a beautiful spring morning. Songbirds are singing as the distant wail of a steam whistle is heard. Then from the other direction the exhaust of an accelerating steam locomotive is heard. As the train charges past and into the distance, another train whistles off and gets underway as a third train is heard approaching and working upgrade. As a parade of steam trains passes, a roll of thunder is heard in the distance. As the storm approaches and the rain begins to fall, the birds head for cover. Soon the storm has passed, and the songbirds emerge from hiding and again take center stage. It’s an impressionist’s painting in sound the sounds of steam railroading in a natural environment.
