Dressage Musical Freestyle Clinics

2022 Scheduled Clinics

Starting 4/23, I will no longer be offering this service

However, I’m happy to continue working with clients via email and video.

Clinic Costs

Freestyle clinics are available to small private groups of riders who are purchasing a freestyle designed for them

My COVID Requirements: I have a poor immune system and will be taking maximum precautions.

Housing: I require a hotel room

Transportation: Anyone transporting me to/from the airport and/or clinic must show proof of being fully vaccinated OR I require a rental car.

Food: I will not be eating indoors unless it's in a private room.

Riders: Need to bring their own headset with microphone capabilities to plug into my CeeCoach.

Auditors: May not be within 10 feet of me unless they show proof of being fully vaccinated.

At this time, a lecture will not be available unless it is held outside.

If your group cannot meet these requirements, then I will not schedule a clinic.

Hosting a Freestyle Clinic.

Clinics should schedule 4 to 8 riders.

Rider fees include one or two 50 minute sessions. These are scheduled over 2 days. The first day will be finding music while the second day will be developing choreography.

A 50% deposit on their level of freestyle is required before the clinic plus divided clinic expenses.
The final balance is due once the freestyle has been designed and before it is sent.

A Lecture is available to the riders that covers the Rules and requirements for $300. It takes approximately 2 hours. Lecture material will be emailed to the organizer who can then forward it to all the riders.

My expenses: Flight/travel costs, hotel, food, and possibly insurance fees.

RIDER REQUIREMENTS:

Riders interested in me developing a custom freestyle for them.

I am happy to work with Rider's who are showing at any level in English (Training- Grand Prix) and Western dressage (Intro-Level 5). They can show at Rated, schooling, and/or online shows. For USDF, they can working toward getting their qualifying score.

Rider's should check my "Price List" page for the costs for their level of freestyle before the clinic so they're aware of the additional fees.

NOTE: RIDERS WHO ARE MERELY INTERESTED IN GETTING THEIR HORSES AND/OR RIDERS OUT IN A NON-SHOW SITUATION ARE NOT ALLOWED. THIS IS A WASTE OF MY TIME AND TALENT. THERE ARE PLACES FOR THEM TO DO THAT AND MY FREESTYLE CLINIC IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

PEOPLE INTERESTED IN LEARNING THE "PROCESS" OF DEVELOPING A FREESTYLE ARE WELCOME AS AUDITORS.

Note: I am NOT a trainer.

Since I am a freestyle designer and choreographer, I do not deal with the training of movements of the horse, or the rider. That is something the rider should seek the advise of a skilled trainer. However, I do consider the horse and riders strengths and weaknesses when developing choreography. The riders should be working toward the level of the freestyle, however, they do not need to be completely proficient at that level during the time of the clinic. The rider does need to be able to control the horse safely during the clinic.

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED for all riders regardless of level.

Auditor's are encouraged to participate during the music selection phase of the session.

Rider's are encouraged to watch other rider's sessions.

A Lecture

A lecture recommended for GMO clinics. The lecture covers the USEF rules and the requirements for USDF, FEI, and WDAA at all levels of freestyles. Questions can be answered at any time during the presentation. The technical and artist aspects of the freestyles are discussed during the presentation. The lecture takes about 2 hours. The lecture is recommended the day prior to the start of the sessions. Materials will be emailed to the organizer who can forward it to the riders.

.

Grants Available

GMO's may apply for up to $750 in a grant from the "Dancing Horse Fund" through the Dressage Foundation for freestyle education. This foundation has been very generous by giving grants to many of my freestyle clinics. Grants are awarded to "promote participation in, and improve the quality of Musical Freestyles at all levels of Dressage."

You must apply for this grant AT LEAST 90 IN ADVANCE of the scheduled clinic.

* The clinic was a huge success! Everyone went away happy.

* It is fun and educational to learn your horse's tempo and match music to it.

Clinic Guidelines

In order to ensure a successful freestyle clinic, the following guidelines should be followed.

Arena

- A full sized dressage court measuring 20 meters by 60 meters with proper footing and marked letters is highly recommended.

- Please make arrangements so that the arena will be properly watered and dragged before the start of each day and, if needed, at lunch.

- A covered arena id required.

Sound System

- An arena accessible sound system in which my computer can be plugged into or blue toothed needs to be provided. (I will bring the appropriate cords.) You can always purchase a small (guitar) amplifier at a music store or on-line for around $200. Then it could be used at other clinics or shows.

Riders

- All riders MUST sign a release for Luna Tunes Freestyles before any session can start.

- All riders MUST wear an approved safety helmet and proper footwear during all sessions. This is NOT optional. No helmet, no session.

- Safety is always given top priority. If a rider has any concerns during a session, she/he should notify Cynthia Collins immediately.

RIDER GOALS

The rider desires a complete competitive freestyle.

On the first day, the horse's movement, body build, and level, is observed in order to select appropriate music. Next, music is played while the horse trots, canters, and then walks, to see which type of music looks correct with the horse. Rider's can bring their own music to try out at the clinic. The can bring it on their phone.

Once music has been selected, choreography will be discussed and developed according to the horse and riders strengths and weaknesses. The rider may need to ride sections of the choreography several times while choreography is being created and adjustments are made. The rider will be e-mailed the choreography.

The rider can continue the process started at the clinic by having me design the freestyle for them. With this Option the rider will receive the $150 session fees credited toward the price of their freestyle. A 50% deposit on the remaining balance is required to continue with the freestyle process.

This will hold their music for them for at least 6 months.

Hopefully during the clinic, the rider will be taped riding their choreography.

This video is for my purposes to design the freestyle. It is not sent to the rider.

If the choreography is taped after the clinic, the video needs to be sent either via What's App (preferred), You Tube, Dropbox, or emailed.

Once the video is received, their freestyle will be designed. The balance of the freestyle is due once the freestyle has been designed, and before it is sent via email.

The rider can work on their existing Luna Tunes freestyle, either to improve on it or change it to a different level.

Note: I do not work on other designers and purchased freestyles.
