The Cooperative Charting program (CoCh) of the U.S. Power Squadron (USPS) is a coastal activity conducted for the purpose of updating the navigational charts produced by NOAA. The Program is a major public service of USPS. Members supply timely information about marker buoys, range status, depths, etc. as well as reporting on Marinas, and submitting entries for the Coast Pilot publication.
Individuals can work on their own but for the Austin Squadron, it usually means about three organized trips per year to anywhere on the Texas/Louisianna coast. Some boats are trailered and others are arranged for at the rendezvous location. Reports are turned in shortly after the event and credits are awarded by NOAA making the efforts into a friendly completion between all Districts and Squadrons in the country.
The trips usually become great opportunities for socializing and tourist activities.
