Frederick, Maryland, June 1, 2017 - The much-anticipated book which follows the life and career of well-known Frederick muralist, Virginia Jacobs McLaughlin, has been released. The 112-page, hard cover book focuses on some of the more stunning and varied murals this nonagenarian has produced during her career which spans more than thirty years. From her early childhood in Missouri, through her scholarship-fueled college education in art, and her transition to a design career in Washington, DC, "Itinerant Painter" visually follows each part through charming family photos. Blending her passion for art with her deep interest in history, her painting embraced the tradition of 18th and 19th century itinerant painters, those artistic souls who traveled the countryside with paint and brushes adding decorative accents and murals to the homes of those who paid them. Their legacy fueled the creative energy that kept Virginia practicing her art, often perched on ladders and scaffolding, well into her nineties. Chronicling her work spanning more than three decades are stunning photos by her son, Salyer, who frequently was her apprentice, as well. As gratitude for the scholarships which she received as a student, Virginia has designated that proceeds from sales of the book fund several scholarships for women in need. The book was designed by Cristy Stup, and written by Jeanne Blackburn. It will be available at local book stores and on line through Virginia's website.
