Teaching Beyond the Textbook (TBT)

Tour A City Near You And Explore What It Has To Offer Educators and Students

All While Earning 3 Nationally Accredited Graduate Credits.

Each class is (3) graduate credits through our University Partner Calumet College of St. Joseph.

What is Teaching Beyond the Textbook?

The purpose of these classes are to provide teachers with a variety of educational related experiences outside of their regular classroom. More than ever, our students are visual learners who need to see what we are talking about to reinforce our classroom instruction. Teaching Beyond the Textbook is designed to help teachers understand how these educational "Field Trip" sites can be beneficial to our students, and to make sure that they are familiar with the logistics of the locations. Many of our educational learning sites feature private guided tours, educational resources for loan to schools, and a variety of other programs that can help you provide the best possible experience to your students. Get out of the classroom and explore, all while earning 3 graduate credits. All TBT courses cost $475.

ILLINOIS CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT AVAILABLE!-

Thanks to a partnership with the Regional Office of Education #7, all Illinois teachers are eligible to earn state-approved continuing education credit (CPDU's). MTI is an approved subcontractor for ROE #7. Each MTI graduate course is worth 45-CPDU's. To request your CPDU's contact Shawn Bean at sbean@midwestteachersinstitute.org.

The new law also requires, beginning with the 2016-17 school year, that holders of a professional certificate in the classroom teaching service or educational leadership service and holders of a Level III Teaching Assistant certificate (but not holders of permanent certificates) who are practicing in a New York public school or board of cooperative educational services (BOCES) complete 100 hours of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) during each five-year registration period. This is a change from the current requirement of 175 hours for those who hold professional certificates and from 75 to 100 hours for those who hold a Level III Teaching Assistant certificate. The CTLE requirement may be completed at any time during the registration period. CTLE completed during a prior registration period may not be carried over. MTI WILL PROVIDE EACH NEW YORK EDUCATOR A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION AND OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT. These courses are very cost effective at only $475 for each 3 credit course.
