Frequently Asked Questions- FAQ'S



Midwest Teachers Institute was designed to provide teachers with an inexpensive way to earn graduate credits for salary enhancement, state re-certification and professional development. By allowing you to choose individual classes, you can decide what content will provide the most meaningful experience for you, your classroom, and your district. By keeping the classes at one of the lowest costs in the country, we allow teachers to improve their teaching repertoire without spending large amounts of money.



Will the classes offered by MTI count towards license renewal or salary advancement?



All of the classes offered by Midwest Teachers Institute are taken for 3 credit hours from either Calumet College of St. Joseph-Whiting, Indiana, Colorado State University-Pueblo, Colorado, Dominican University-River Forest, Illinois and University of California-San Diego. Cal College, CSU-Pueblo and Dominican are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) . Calumet College and Dominican are also accredited by The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), formerly known as NCATE. MTI courses are accredited in all 50 states.


The Higher Learning Commission (HLC),is a member of North Central Association, 30 N. LaSalle St., Suite 2400, Chicago, IL 60602-2504, (800) 621-7440 .


Make sure to gain district approval from your school prior to signing up for the course(s).



How much do the classes cost?



The Distance Learning/ Self Paced courses are $375 each which includes (3) Accredited Graduate Level credits, textbook and all class materials.


Online and Video courses are $475 each which includes (3) Accredited Graduate Level credits, textbook and access to our LMS (online Learning Management Software). The course is completely online.

Summer Course MTI 599 TBT, Teaching Beyond the Textbook are $475 each, which includes (3) Accredited Graduate Level credits, and any class textbooks and materials.
*MTI 599 are UNIQUE courses called where you will be traveling to various educational sites*

How many classes can I take with MTI?



All students taking graduate courses through Midwest Teachers Institute are limited to the following maximum number of classes/credits for a semester: 6 Classes(18 credits) per Semester or 45 credits per year.



When can I register for classes?



You can register at anytime for a distance/self-paced courses. From the date of registration you have one(1) whole calendar year to complete your work. For any of our other courses such as Online, please Click HERE to see our online catalog of courses and dates. They each have specific start dates.



How do I turn my work in to MTI?



In an effort to help the environment and reduce paperwork, MTI is committed to being a Green Company by accepting work sent exclusively via email. When sending work via email, make sure that you save the document with the course number followed by your first and last name. Example: Course MTI 534 Raising Expectations sent in by John Smith would be saved as 534JohnSmith to ensure that we are able to identify and open the document. The email address where you send in your completed work is grades@midwestteachersinstitute.org.



When and How does MTI grade my work?



Midwest Teachers Institute will begin to process your work within 2-3 business days after receiving your document. Please check each specific course syllabi for grading rubrics and scales. Please give us 7 to 14 business days to grade all your work. We will then email you a grade report, with your letter grade and transcript ordering instructions.



What if I receive a grade lower than a B or I forget to turn in part of an assignment?



Should you receive a grade lower than a B for your course, the work will be returned and you will be asked to review and improve any of the assignments . Once this is done, you will then resubmit the work. The overall goal is to make sure that you know the content, and to extend your knowledge base. Should you forget to turn in part of an assignment, your work will also be returned, regardless of the overall grade, for you to finish and then resubmit.



How do I pay for my classes?



MTI accepts PayPal including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover. Sorry, we do not accept cash, checks, money orders or financial aid. We also offer 6 months financing through PayPal Credit.



What are the requirements for teaching with MTI?



Since many districts require onsite hours for salary advancement, MTI is constantly looking for qualified instructors in a variety of areas. If you are interested in bringing a class to your area, send us your resume at : info@midwestteachersinstitute.org. The qualifications for consideration are a masters or doctorate degree, 5 years of teaching experience beyond the date you received your masters and experience with the topic you are interested in teaching. You then need to fill out the necessary paperwork; including a resume,masters or doctorate transcripts, application form, and a copy of your teaching certificate. At that point we will evaluate your ability to become one of our independent contractors at MTI.



Who do I contact if I have questions with my course?



If you have any questions you may contact MTI via email at info@midwestteachersinstitute.org. Please include your name, course and specific problem, and our dedicated staff will respond promptly. You may also contact your professor/Instructor directly as advised on your course syllabi.



What if I need to cancel one of my distance/correspondence courses?



After you receive your course materials and decide you no longer wish to take the course, you may cancel within 30 days from the date of registration. To receive your refund, simply email your request to:
info@midwestteachersinstitute.org. We will process your refund in 3 to 5 business days. The textbook is yours to keep. We are not able to offer any refunds for course cancellations after 30 days.



What if I need to cancel an onsite/online/video/workshop or webinar course?



To receive a full refund, you must cancel no later than 7 calendar days before the first day of your registered class. To cancel send us an email at info@midwestteachersinstitute.org with your name, course, site location and reason for cancellation. Within 7 days, no refunds will be honored, however you may put your fees towards another class within one calendar year.
