DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling is a specialized technique used by certified physiotherapists in the treatment of dysfunctions related to muscular pain and injuries. During dry needling, the therapist inserts a thin filiform needle into the muscular tissue in order to stimulate a local and systemic recovery response. The benefits of this treatment include a reduction in pain, improved inflammatory control, decreased swelling and muscle tension, as well as optimized tissue recovery.

Dry needling has been shown to be of particular benefit in relieving trigger points, otherwise known as 'muscle knots', which are a very common source of muscle pain.

What to expect in a dry needling session?

Dry needling is safe and minimally invasive, and since the treatment commonly lasts only 5-10 minutes, it can be done within your standard physiotherapy session. Furthermore, there is no added cost to this treatment. Due to how thin the needles are, The insertion of the needle is usually very well tolerated. As a comparison, it is far less painful than a vaccination or blood test.

At all times, your therapist will adjust the needling intensity/duration/speed to ensure your comfort. Common symptoms following the treatment include soreness that can last 24-72 hours and fatigue.
