Massage therapy West Island (DDO)

Welcome to Integral Performance Massage West Island (Dollard-des-Ormeaux), your neighbourhood choice for professional massage services in DDO. Our massage therapist, who also graduated as a physical rehabilitation therapist, combines her training of massage therapy and physiotherapy to provide the best recovery possible and are part of an interdisciplinary team.

She first takes the time to assess your condition using Swedish massage techniques which allow her to “scan” your body for tensions and/or stiffness that need to be released during your treatment.

She then selects the best tools (Swedish, trigger point, deep tissue, cupping, mobilizations, drains, etc.) which are most suitable for you.

Thus, your massage therapy treatments are always a unique combination of selected treatment styles specific to your personal needs.

In addition, a combination of physiotherapy and massage therapy helps optimize the effect of your treatments and speed up your recovery. Relaxing your muscles through massotherapy makes it easier for the physiotherapist to use various maneuvers without negative reaction (protective spasms) and vice versa, by having less muscular tensions you have less pain and your healing accelerates.

Benefits of a therapeutic massage:

  • Optimize healing
  • Natural remedy for pain, not harmful to the body
  • Preventive, decrease muscle tensions to avoid potential injuries
  • Decrease localized pain
  • Improve blood and lymphatic circulation = better healing
  • Decrease spasms and muscle tension causing pain
  • Optimizing joint flexibility

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is usually done without the use of massage oils. These techniques are specifically designed to relax the muscles and fascias (which are membranes that envelop the muscles). Rather than gliding over the muscles as in traditional massages, the therapist applies pressure to stretch out the tense tissue.

Deep tissue massage helps break down the adhesions that exist between the different layers of muscles and fascia that cause pain and mobility restrictions.

Benefits:

  • Feeling of lightness after treatment
  • Promotes the secretion of endorphins, pain-relieving hormones
  • Prolonged relaxation of muscle tension
  • Improved mobility, range of motion
  • Improves posture
  • Eliminates localized muscle spasms and tension

Classic / Swedish Massage

This massage is done using gentle maneuvers and does not cause any discomfort. Swedish massages are designed to help relax physically and mentally.

Benefits:

  • Muscular relaxation
  • Anti-stress effects
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Helps fight depression
  • Promotes blood and lymphatic circulation
  • Help with inflammatory diseases (ex: arthritis, etc.)

Lomi-Lomi Massage

During a lomi-lomi massage, the therapist almost exclusively uses the forearms and elbows. Our massage therapist integrates lomi-lomi techniques into her practice to ensure the best therapeutic approach for each patient.

Why a lomi-lomi massage?

A lomi-lomi massage allows the therapist to work deep in the muscle: combining a therapeutic massage with the use of elbows and forearms allows her to work through deep muscle tensions.

Trigger point massage

A trigger point, also known as a “knot”, is a painful spot that occurs due to muscular tensions. Triggers point may cause pain during specific movements or even at rest. People will often report pain in an area far from the trigger point itself, thus trigger point pain tends to radiate.

Unfortunately, without proper treatment, trigger points do not improve. A deep tissue massage combined with specific trigger point techniques is the ideal remedy!

To adequately treat trigger points, our therapist first localizes the origin, she then applies pressure to the “knot”. Each press may last up to 60 seconds.

Pregnancy Massage

Massage for pregnant women is usually done after the stabilization of the fetus, which is beyond 3 months (12 weeks) of pregnancy. A woman who is going through a normal pregnancy can get a massage at any time (after the 12th week), even until the very end of her pregnancy. The frequency of treatments depends on the needs of each patient in which your massage therapist will be able to advise you.

Women who currently or have ever experienced the following are considered “at risk” and will require a medical note from their treating doctor.

Considered at risk if:

x History of miscarriage

x High-risk pregnancy

x Preeclampsia

x High blood pressure

x Diabetes

x Are in their first trimester of pregnancy (prior to the stabilization of the fetus)

Benefits:

  • Physical, emotional and psychological relaxation
  • Promotes restful sleep
  • Helps reduce fatigue
  • Improves muscular strength to better support the additional weight of the baby
  • Treats muscle and joint pain due to imbalances caused by pregnancy
  • Improves posture
  • Relieves back pain, heavy legs, and muscle cramps
  • Reduces swelling (edema) of the legs and feet
  • Accelerates postpartum recovery
  • Helps proper blood circulation

In addition, the "body cushion" is a specialized cushion that allows pregnant women to lie on their stomachs at any stage of their pregnancy to receive their care. This allows the therapist to access all muscle groups and to provide more effective relief.

Cupping

Cupping is another tool that can be easily integrated into your massage treatment to accelerate the muscular decongestion of a particular region. Our therapist always combines the use of cupping with more traditional therapeutic massage techniques.

Did you know that?

  • 5 minutes of cupping treatment = 30 minutes of traditional massage.
  • Cupping can reach muscular tensions as deep as 4 inches

Benefits:

  • Shin Splints
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Improve scars tissue healing, decreases the adhesion of scar tissue
  • Relieve muscle pain/tension
  • Reduce tissue congestion
  • Detoxification of the body by increasing blood circulation in the treated areas
